Introduction

Our client had a project involving NMT engine learning and needed to translate large volume texts into many languages fluently.

Challenges

  • Short deadlines for high-quality translation.
  • Highly specialised texts in various areas: politics, law, business, sport, etc.
  • Each text contained a mixture of different subject areas.
  • No reference material provided.

Solution

2-4 translators were selected per language with experience in marketing/business/law. Additionally, 1-2 editors per language were added to the pool.

Texts were divided between the linguists according to specialism and availability.

Spot checks were carried out for each translator to check their performance on specialised texts. Based on spot check results, some parts/areas of the texts were reassigned to different translators or revised by the subject matter expert.

Involvement of the Vendor Manager saved a lot of time for Project managers; this time was used to more effectively track the quality.

The project was carried out online with the CAT tool Memsource and this ensured better monitoring of timely performance, spot checks and editing possibilities.

Results

The client was happy with the timely deliveries and quality. According to the quality evaluations received from the client after project completion, the evaluation scores met the client’s expectations.
